after reading so many positive reviews, we decided to have dinner here on a Thursday evening. Unfortunately it turned out to be a disappointing meal as the fried chicken was too dry despite being a thigh piece. Frankly many ayam penyet places at hawker centers could offer much tastier chicken at lower price point.
Their teh tarik was good though.
Located on the ground floor of City Plaza. Plentiful parking available in the building or if you are lucky, there’re public lots along the road at the back of the building.
Decided to get it a try after hearing recommendations from a friend. Ordered the Sup Buntut and wasn’t disappointed at all! The meat is not fall off the bone but still tender enough to be pulled apart easily with utensils. I felt this is just the nice texture for a positive mouth sensation. Taste wise is pretty close to the best that I have tried before in Jakarta. Do ask for sambal and calamansi to mix into the soup for a spicy and tangy kick. Pricing wise, is a little on the high side but ingredients are fresh and portioning acceptable.
Orders are made and collected at the counter from friendly staff and place is kept pretty clean, which makes it a pleasant place to have a quick meal. Witnessed pretty much an Indonesian clientele when there, must say that boils down to the good and authentic food. Will be back to try the goreng goreng stuff next time.
Ayam Geprek Mercon
🍜 Food wise: Pretty delicious plate, the chicken was quite tender and slightly juicy! The chilli was supposed to be spread on top of the chicken but to be safe, one requested to put it by the side because the chilli was said to be spicy and it was pretty spicy! Felt like the chilli's were the star of the show here.
It also turned out that they may have a variety of chilli, Hijau, Mercon and other chilli. I was given the sweeter red chilli and there was one without the sweetness, it was pure spice, not sure what both of them were called but one of them is Mercon for sure. The green chilli was fragrant and spicy!
Dip the keropok into the chilli, it was delicious!
✨ Ambience wise: Feels like a KFC kind of vibe!
🤵🏻 Service wise: Great! Friendly staff! One requested to try the Hijau and they gave so much!
💵 Price wise: $8
as an Indonesian, this is the best and most authentic ayam penyet I've tried in Singapore.
The fried chicken (ayam penyet) is not dry and quite crispy. Portion is sufficient too. Love the version with fresh green chilli sauce. You can ask for more sauce if needed. It’s an indoor air conditioned restaurant, and staff is friendly. Plenty if seats for big groups too. Halal certified. Prices start from $7.90 nett for a main dish. Beware of the red sambal chilli though, it’s really spicy! Felt that the side dish of tofu and tempe can be cheaper.
I Came Across Something That Is So Disturbing . Theres A Staff There Who Was Serving Food At The Counter And Was Calling Out Numbers . And Then Is Number 13 Turn To Collect Her Food . Your Staff Was Calling For "TIGA BELAS" And No One Responded . And I Assume , The Auntie Holding To That Queue Number Was Having Difficulties In Hearing . As I Can See That She Is Already Old . Your Staff Knows That The Auntie Was Holding To That Queue Number , Why Not Just Sent It Over To Her . But She Shouted Instead . "TIGA BELAS MAKCIK" . And Everyone Was Looking . Where's Her Manners ? Does She Have To Be That Rude ? And Its Really Disturbing Me . What If That Was My Mother ? My Aunty ? As A Muslim , Can't She Respect Another Muslim ? And What Sadden Me Was , That Aunty Was Old . And Can See That She Having Problems With Her Legs . As She Walking Quite Slow . Please Take Note Of This . This Is Something Really Serious . Emailed Them But They Didnt Get Back To Me . Just So Disappointed .
Recommended! Ayam Penyet with rice comes with selection of 5 different types of chillis. We tried sambal belacan and belado it's spicy and yummy. Good selection of drinks too! Will be back next time to try their Ayam Geprek!
Order Gado-gado, Sup Buntut and Ayam Penyet.
The bad:
Music was extremely loud when we entered, but when we sat down, they lowered the volume to a much more bearable level.
This place should really look into hiring a cleaner to clean up the place.
Pricey. I could get cheaper food at most of our air-conditioned food courts around the island.
The good:
The staff was nice. They bothered to introduce and give recommendations. But then again, it was a Sunday evening and there weren't many customers.
Portions were pretty good.
The taste:
The Gado-gado lack a few essential ingredients e.g beansprouts. 5 out of 10.
The soup Buntut wasn't warm and tasted normal. 5 out of 10.
Ayam Penyet was normal as well. It was crispy and the rice was a good portion. 6 out of 10.
